This Inaugural Address Card Sort is a great way to introduce students to the importance of inauguration day.
This exercise helps students review and remember quotes from the four notable inaugural addresses by Abraham Lincoln, FDR, JFK, and Theodore Roosevelt.
First, print everything out. Then cut the sorting cards out for students and the pockets to glue into students’ notebooks. Start handing out the quote cards to see how much they know about each of these four presidents. For example, this president said this quote “…. the only thing we have to fear is fear itself…”. They would then put that card into the pocket (president) they think it is.
After that, give them the speeches to read so they can try the card sort again. If students need another try, give them the speeches and cards at the same time to complete the activity!
An answer key is included so that students can check their own work and review later for a test or quiz.
In short, this Inaugural Address Card Sort is a great, interactive activity to help students remember the four notable speeches on inauguration day.
